Ciacona
360° stereoscopic virtual reality video
Based on a chaconne by Johann Pachelbel (1653–1706), Ciacona transforms the viewer into the centre of a continuously evolving virtual landscape where music, movement and space become inseparable.
A dancer interprets the music simultaneously in five different locations within the scene. Rather than representing successive moments in time, these five presences coexist, creating a visual polyphony that mirrors the musical variations unfolding over the constant ground bass. The choreography becomes an extension of the compositional process, translating repetition and variation into movement.
The surrounding environment is constructed from photographic fragments of the urban landscape, abstracted and extruded into translucent three-dimensional forms. These structures slowly transform throughout the work, gradually redefining the spatial relationships between the viewer, the dancer and the environment.
Designed as a 360° stereoscopic experience, Ciacona invites the spectator to inhabit the visual space rather than simply observe it. Surrounded by music and moving bodies, the viewer experiences the passacaglia not only as a musical form, but as an immersive architecture of perception.
